The structures of scientific research are often built from steel and other metals. Yoshioka brings their images into contact with a very different material: Japanese paper made from plant fibres.
Working with papermakers and collaborators in Kochi, he has contributed to the development of Tosa Hakkinshi, a washi paper made for platinum-palladium printing. In this work, the photographic image is also a physical object, carrying a record of scientific activity through paper, light and time.
The paper was developed through collaboration between the Tosa-no-Yama Paper Resource Association, Satoru Yoshioka and Ayako Yamane, with support from the Ino Regional Employment Promotion Council.
