Does the universe exist within us?

Working with neuroscientist Hermina Nedelescu, Yoshioka created photographs and moving images from brain data. In the intricate structures and luminous colours of neural imagery, he perceived a visual echo of the cosmos.

The project extends the question at the heart of his photographs of particle accelerators. The origin of the universe and the mystery of life become connected fields of enquiry, approached through a photographer’s way of seeing.

The 2015 Tokyo exhibition brought these works together with photographs from high-energy physics laboratories.
