Program Outline:

A solo exhibition by Satoru Yoshioka, a photographer who studied photography in the U.S. and worked there before relocating to his hometown of Kochi, Japan, where he continues to work energetically, High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) / Tsukuba, Brookhaven National Laboratory / New York, Kamioka Observatory / Kamioka, Institute for Cosmic Ray Research, University of Tokyo, etc.)

Why do we exist?"
Visual Studies in the World of High Energy Physics" and "Is There a Universe Inside Us? Focusing on two recent series, "Visual Studies of Beauty in the Brain" and "Is There a Universe Inside Us?

Yoshioka has given a new perspective to "landscape," which until now has been discussed with "nature" as its axis, by thoroughly examining the existence of "artifacts. The new landscapes Yoshioka has discovered will provide an opportunity to consider what landscape means in photography and the relationship between science and humans.

The exhibition will not be held in a white cube, but in Zuiun-an, an over 100-year-old private house in the Kamigamo district of Kyoto, which retains the atmosphere of the good old days. The fusion of the historical space and Yoshioka's work, which evokes a futuristic world, will also be a main highlight of the exhibition.

【企画概要】
アメリカで写真を学び同地で活躍した後、故郷の高知市に拠点を移し、精力的に制作を続ける写真家、吉岡さとるによる個展。

2005年より吉岡が取り組んで来た高エネルギー物理学研究所（欧州合同原子核研究機構・セルン／スイス、SLAC国立加速器研究所／カリフォルニア、高エネルギー加速器研究機構／筑波、ブルックヘブン国立研究所／ニューヨーク、東京大学宇宙線研究所 神岡宇宙素粒子研究施設／神岡など）をテーマにしたシリーズ「何故、我々は存在するのか？ 高エネルギー物理学の世界における視覚的研究」と、実験用マウスの脳にカメラを向けた「我々の中に、宇宙が存在するのか？脳内の美の視覚的研究の近作２シリーズにフォーカスし、吉岡が取り組んできた科学研究の周辺に立ち上がる風景に眼を向けます。

これまで「自然」を軸に語られてきた「風景というものに、吉岡は徹底的な「人工物」の存在を通すことで新たな視座を与えています。吉岡が見出した新しい風景から、写真における風景とは何か、そして、科学と人間の関係性や未来の風景について考える機会となるでしょう。

また、今回の展示はホワイトキューブではなく、京都の古き良き風情を残す上賀茂地区に佇む築百年を越える古民家＜瑞雲庵 zuiun-an＞で行なわれます。歴史を積み重ねて来た空間と、未来の世界を彷彿させる吉岡の作品の融合も大きな見所となります。
